It all began in 1948, when Charlie Chandler’s uncle, Homer, started roofing. Homer later became a foreman at McPhilips Roofing, where a young Charlie spent his summers learning the ropes in the late 1960s.
In 1967, Charlie officially started working for McPhilips in St. Paul. After a two-year stint in the Army, he moved to Red Wing in 1972 to continue working with McPhilips. Over the next 13 years, Charlie honed his skills on both residential and commercial projects.
In 1985, Charlie took the leap and co-founded his own roofing company with partner Nick Felber. When Nick later went out on his own, he left Charlie with nearly all of the company’s equipment, helping lay the foundation for what would become a multi-generational family business.
By 2001, Charlie’s son Eric bought into the business, taking on 50% ownership. From the beginning, Eric focused on residential roofing, while Charlie handled the commercial side. Around the same time, Eric’s brother Dana was pitching in whenever he could while attending college. After graduating in 2002, Dana joined the company full-time.
In 2007, Chandler Roofing officially became Chandler Roofing & Construction, reflecting a broader range of services. That same year, a major hailstorm hit the area, leading the team to expand operations, subcontract more projects, and transition commercial roofing from traditional tar to more modern TPO systems.
By 2015, Charlie officially passed the torch, selling his remaining share of the company to Dana—making Chandler Roofing & Construction a true second-generation partnership between Eric and Dana. But Charlie’s influence never left. The skills, values, and work ethic he passed down still guide every project today.
With deep family roots and decades of hands-on experience, Chandler Roofing & Construction proudly stands as a third-generation roofing company, built on craftsmanship, integrity, and a commitment to serving both residential and commercial clients in the Red Wing area and beyond.
